The Delhi government has sterilized 1.57 lakh monkeys in eight sterilisation centers of the forest department. This is part of its ongoing efforts to help farmers and combat the monkey menace. This information was provided by Govind Thakur, Forest Minister, at a workshop on "Human Wildlife Conflict" on Tuesday.
Minister said that the forest department would train people to capture monkey catchers. For this, a Rs 1,000 incentive was offered. According to him, 548 panchayats in the state are at risk from monkey menace. Therefore, such workshops should be held there.
He also stressed the importance of planting fruit-bearing tree saplings in forests to ensure that monkeys do not enter human settlements looking for food.
Ram Subhag Singh, additional chief secretary, stated that suggestions made at the workshop to control monkey catcher in delhi menace will be taken into consideration. Savita, principal chief conservator of forests, stated that the department is committed to reducing human-wildlife conflict. The department has already identified 1,100 monkey hotspots within the state. Forest department conducted a survey to check the monkey population from time-to-time.
