Gurugram municipal Officials announced that the Municipal Corporation of Gurugram(MCG) has established monkey catcher helpline number so residents can report any problems with monkeys in their locality. This will allow for quicker intervention. Officials stated that residents now have the option to directly contact the two agencies on the civic body's behalf at 9568576200 and 8058409681, respectively, instead of having to approach MCG officials at their offices.
Residents have been attacked by monkeys in many areas, including the Golf Course Road, MG Road and Gurgaon Faridabad Road. Residents of Ward 30 raised the concern of monkey plague during Sunday's MCG Nagar Nigam Aapke Dawar (MCG at Your Door) session. Ward 30 comprises sectors 55, 56 and 58. 61, Gwal Pahari and Balola are also included. It is located at the foothills the Aravallis on Gurgaon Faribabad Road. Officials assured residents in Ward 30 that their concerns would be addressed on a priority basis and that the two monkey catcher agencies would be working towards eliminating the monkey plague in their area.
The MCG has introduced several numbers to help residents of ward 30. "This will help residents get relief quicker, and also expedite our efforts to end the menace across the entire city," stated SS Rohilla (PRO), MCG's public relations officer. Some monkeys can cause severe injuries to residents. A particular monkey attack had led to the death of a Nathupur resident three years ago. A 25-year old man died after being chased by monkeys and fell from his terrace.
"Despite having a view of the Aravallis from my home, and a beautiful view of the mountains, I can't open my balcony windows or doors because monkeys are entering the condos and causing havoc. We received alerts from our condominium's social networks to warn each other about the presence of monkeys in our area every week. "This is not a way to live," Naman Ahuja, a DLF 5 resident said. Officials from the MCG stated that they had extended the tenures of the two agencies responsible in the capture and rehabilitation of monkeys.
After six months, their performance is assessed and contracts are renewed. This month marks the tenth anniversary of their hiring. According to the agreement, agencies receive Rs 1,500 from the MCG for the rehabilitation of monkeys.
